Research Scientist/Engineer

Description

The Research Scientist/Engineer conducts lubricant research & product development to deliver competitive technologies to the Lubricants Business.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Lead product scientist primarily for small engine lubricants and secondarily for crankcase, driveline, motorsports and industrial lubricants
  • Conduct new product development, formulation and optimization projects to ensure manufacture of products capable of meeting customer and industry performance specifications
  • Product stewardship and operations support for small engine lubricants
  • Support Lubricants Technical Service group with troubleshooting of field issues and consultation
  • Conduct fundamental research and development
  • Coordinate contract testing/evaluation programs with internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in customer field trials, analyze, interpret and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders
  • Represent Phillips 66 at customer interface, industry functions and technical meetings
  • Inform lubricants organization of technical trends and changes to industry performance specifications
  • Oversee assigned technician and laboratory to ensure safe and efficient operations while following HSE and Lubricants Quality procedures

Position Requirements

Basic/Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • 7 or more years of experience in the lubricant research / product development or technical experience in a lubricants related application
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry, engineering or related field

Preferred:

  • Experienced in engagement with equipment manufacturers (automotive and tier 1)
  • Knowledgeable in motorsports/powersports formulating and/or experienced in engagement with enthusiasts/end users
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead by influence. Strong oral and written communications skills required
  • Time management with the ability to multitask and prioritize work
  • Exercise professional etiquette especially with external customers and suppliers, maintain confidentiality
  • Understanding of team-based culture
  • The ability to review and provide direction for lubricant blending and testing
  • Project management experience
  • Understanding of ISO and IATF quality standards
